Pro Arts at Paws & Claws

Paws & Claws will be hosting local artists Delaine Hackney & Amy Jo Evje during the 2013 East Bay Open Studios.
Delaine’s work includes colorful and whimsical mosaic portraits of Dogs and Cats created with ceramic, glass and found objects. Along with her mosaic pet portraits there will be a plethora of cat and dog related art in the parking area in front of Paws and Claws!
Amy Jo’s art will include vibrant paintings of dogs and cats on canvas and reclaimed wood. She will also be selling small prints and greeting cards made from her many dog and cat pet portraits.
This event connects the public with over 400 regional artists and is accompanied by the Pro Arts Directory of East Bay Arts. For more information and list of Open Studios near you, check out www.proartsgallery.org.

Earth Day in the Dimond April 20th
Paws & Claws is Sponsoring “Earth Day” Business District Clean Up
Sat. April. 20th, 9am-12noon
Paws & Claws is sponsoring a “Earth Day” business district clean up, Sat. April 20th, 9 am-12 noon. There will be pizza for humans, treats for dogs & cats, plus a chance to win a earth friendly pet gift basket!
Meet in front of Paws & Claws, 3436 Dimond Ave., off Mac Arthur Blvd. at 9am to help clean up the Dimond business district. Some tools will be provided but we recommend bringing gloves.
Romano’s Pizza, 2026 MacArthur Blvd. will help us celebrate after the clean up by supplying pizza & free drinks. Paws & Claws will provide Free pet goody bags for pet owners too.
Sign up early for a chance to win a pet gift basket! The drawing will take place after the clean up at 12 noon. For more info check out our facebook events page.

LOW COST PET VACCINATION CLINICS
Sunday April 7th & 21st from 3pm to 5pm
Paws and Claws is offering low cost pet vaccinations in our store every other Sunday from 3-5 with Pet Amigos. 

PET AMIGOS is an Oakland based business that partners with independent pet stores to offer low cost vaccinations for cats and dogs. In addition to vaccines, they will have microchips, heartworm testing and prevention, FIV/FeLV testing for cats, fecal testing for parasites, and treatment for both roundworms and tapeworms.
Pet Amigos takes pride in offering excellent customer service and kind, gentle, professional care for your pet. Pet Amigos is owned and operated by Travis Thayer DVM & Lindsey Hassell RVT. Come on out and see the Pet Amigos difference!

Howl-o-ween Pet Parade & Costume Contest Oct 27th
Join us for our for our 9th Annual “Howl-o-ween” Pet Parade & Costume Contest in the Dimond District. Meet in front of Paws & Claws at 2pm to parade thru the Dimond business district collecting treats. Pets & kids are welcome to participant in the parade. After the parade we return to Paws & Claws, for a chance to win some fun prizes as folks compete for the Best Human & Pet costume. This annual celebration includes some of the best dressed costumes you’ll ever see. Check out our facebook pictures from last year’s event. ODOG will be at the event to take photos for a donation.
This year we have decided to collaborate with Dimond Public Library, and have a Sat afternoon event. Robin Goodfellow, our neighborhood craft extraodinaire will be showing kids how to make Halloween themed paper cutouts 11am-12p. The Dimond Library is located at 3565 Fruitvale Ave. Kids who create cutouts at the library are encourged to bring them to the store after the class to help decorate our store. At 1pm Librarian Sarah Hodgson will follow with some scary torytelling. Then off to Paws & Claws for the parade at 2pm!

Join us for this popular “pet portraits for charity”event by Michelle Walker Photography. All donations will go to fund training with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. It’s not just for pets – bring yourselves, your pets, your kids and anyone else you want! No appointment necessary.

| A $20 minimum donation is requested. All proceeds go to Team in Training. You’ll receive a $20 gift certificate to use toward your favorite portrait. – it’s like getting a free portrait session! |

Artist Reception Friday, July 20th 6-8
Please join us on Friday, July 20th from 6-8pm for an artist’s reception. Meet local artist, Christopher Fuzi, our current pet photographer on display at Paws & Claws. His photos capture the expression, interaction and emotion that create the bond we have with our four legged companions. Like people, dogs & cats are all different in the way they age. Join us Wednesday evening at Paws & Claws for “A Holistic Approach to Pain” with Kirsten Williams, DVM. Dr. Williams will be speaking on new ways to approach pain for aging pets. She will discuss alternatives to pharmaceuticals, like acupuncture, chiropractic, nutraceuticals, herbs, prolotherapy, and diet. She will also touch on the physiology of pain perception.
Kirsten Williams, currently a DVM at Creature Comfort Holistic Veterinary Center, attended UC Davis for undergrad & Vet School. Born in Oakland, she currently lives in Oakland with her husband Stuart, son and daughter, a cat, a dog and a snake. Her emphasis is on complementary medicine, blending allopathic and holistic to serve each individual pet to the fullest.
